Three years of youth grants: Council authorizes up to $1.1 million

The Urban League would direct grants to nonprofits serving students and families, with General Fund installments starting at $370,000 in FY2027.

Atlanta City Council voted 10–0 on November 2 to authorize up to $1.1 million over three years for youth-development grants through the Urban League of Greater Atlanta, according to the council’s draft action minutes.[1]

The money supports organizations serving young people—not direct payments to families. The Youth Development Grant Program awards funds to community-based nonprofits so they can expand services for Metro Atlanta students and their families.[2]

The three-year General Fund plan we reported before the vote is now council-authorized: $370,000 in fiscal year 2027, followed by $365,000 in each of fiscal years 2028 and 2029.[1][2]

Council adopted the substitute version of Resolution 26-R-4275 that the Finance/Executive Committee unanimously recommended October 28.[1][2]

The vote authorizes the donation; it does not document a payout. The resolution says the donation agreement will not bind the city until it receives city-attorney approval as to form, is executed by the mayor or a designee, and is delivered to the Urban League. These records do not establish whether those steps or any payments have been completed.[1][2]
