A $1.1 million proposal to help youth nonprofits reach more students

The Urban League would administer the FY2027 grants. Atlanta’s finance committee is scheduled to consider the proposal October 28; the payment account is still marked “TBD.”

Atlanta would put up to $1.1 million into youth-development grants through the Urban League of Greater Atlanta under a proposal aimed at helping local nonprofits serve more students and families.[1]

The proposed fiscal year 2027 donation would support the Youth Development Grant Program. Rather than making payments directly to families, the program awards money to community-based organizations. The resolution targets existing nonprofits that need additional funding to expand their capacity to serve students.[1]

This would expand an existing city partnership. The resolution cites a 2023 ordinance authorizing a donation of up to $500,000 to the Urban League and describes the proposed $1.1 million as an additional donation—not a statement of the program’s total annual budget.[1]

The proposal is not an approved donation in the packet’s recorded history: City Council referred Resolution 26-R-4275 without objection on October 19. The Finance/Executive Committee is scheduled to consider it October 28 at 1:30 p.m.[1]

One financing detail remains unresolved in the text: the account that would pay for the donation is marked “TBD.” The proposal also calls for a donation agreement, which would not bind the city until it receives city-attorney approval as to form, is executed by the mayor or a designee, and is delivered to the Urban League.[1]
