Local brief
An unchanged rate would still add nearly $279,000 to the tax levy
The city's proposal would put its levy on Fulton County properties near $4 million. Residents can comment at two Nov. 5 hearings.
Keeping Chattahoochee Hills' property-tax rate at 8.20 mills would still increase its total levy on Fulton County properties to about $3.98 million—roughly $278,500 more than in 2025, according to the city's Oct. 28 council memo.[1]
The city's table rounds that increase to 8%. It is not an across-the-board 8% increase in every owner's bill. The net tax digest grows from about $450.9 million to $484.9 million; individual bills depend on a property's assessment and exemptions as well as the millage rate.[1]
As we reported in our earlier hearing preview, the unchanged-rate proposal is still above the city's stated 8.14-mill rollback rate. The advertised 0.74% increase compares the proposed rate with rollback. The roughly 8% increase compares the total levy with the previous year. They measure different things.[1][2]
Mayor Camille Lowe has framed retaining 8.20 mills as a way to protect city services while allowing growth in the tax digest to support investment in local priorities.[2]
Residents can comment at noon or 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at City Hall, 6505 Rico Road. Although the proposal concerns Fulton County properties, the city also encourages residents and property owners in its Coweta County portion to participate.[2]
The rate remains a recommendation in the Oct. 28 memo, not an adopted rate. Draft minutes say the council took no action at the first hearing on Oct. 6.[1][3]
