Atlanta’s Transportation Committee unanimously held a proposal to abandon a portion of Shirley Place NW. The supporting ordinance says the right-of-way has been fenced off to vehicles and pedestrians since Verbena Gardens was demolished because it does not provide access to occupied or actively used properties.

Ordinance 26-O-1535 cites earlier resolution 23-R-4152’s support for potential inclusion of the right-of-way in an affordable-housing land assemblage. That is a stated purpose, not approval of a housing development. The committee hold does not establish abandonment; the minutes list Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. as the next checkpoint.
