Atlanta’s Finance/Executive Committee kept a proposed compensation plan for sworn Atlanta Fire Rescue personnel on hold Sept. 30. Ordinance 26-O-1265 calls for competitive wages, rank differentials and retention incentives. The committee hold is not authorization to change pay.

The proposal would authorize the chief financial officer to allocate necessary funding, including salary and pension costs, and require quarterly reports on staffing, retention, response times and overtime. It names the first pay period in July 2026 as its proposed implementation date, although the Sept. 30 record still marks the measure held.

The supporting ordinance cites staffing shortages, attrition and increased overtime reliance as reasons for revising compensation. The minutes note a May 13 hold for additional information and list Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. as the next checkpoint, not a pay-implementation date.
