Glynn Drive annexation hearing set for Oct. 28

The proposal would bring properties in unincorporated DeKalb County into both Atlanta and its independent school system.

Atlanta’s Finance/Executive Committee has scheduled an Oct. 28 public hearing on the proposal to annex properties fronting Glynn Drive SE from unincorporated DeKalb County. The council’s notice lists a 1:30–3:30 p.m. window for the hearing on ordinance 26-O-1542.[1][2]

Sponsored by Councilmember Liliana Bakhtiari, the proposal would extend both Atlanta’s city limits and the Atlanta Independent School System’s boundary to include the annexed area. The draft says its school-enrollment provision would take effect on the first day of the month after adoption—not on the hearing date.[1]

A separate ordinance, 26-O-1541, would assign R-4 Single Family Residential zoning upon annexation. Atlanta’s Office of Zoning and Development recommends that classification as consistent with the properties’ current DeKalb zoning. That measure concerns the zoning that would accompany annexation, rather than approval of the boundary expansion itself.[1][3]

The date resolves an uncertainty in our earlier annexation preview, which could not confirm when the public hearing would occur. The committee’s legislative record lists the annexation ordinance as held; the notice establishes a hearing, not a completed change in city or school-system boundaries.[2][4]
