Four acting fire sergeants approved to cover three vacancies and a medical leave

City staff said the acting assignments were needed to maintain enough certified officers to meet the Fire Department's minimum staffing requirement.

Starkville aldermen approved four acting-sergeant appointments Oct. 20 after city staff said the assignments were needed to maintain enough certified officers to meet the Fire Department's minimum staffing requirement.[1][2][3][4]

Christopher McGlothin, Gage Wesley, Yaakov Weinstein and Caleb Pugh were approved for the acting roles. The Human Resources request identifies three vacant sergeant posts—Ladder One, Engine One and Ladder Two—and a fourth sergeant on medical leave.[1][2][3][4]

The request lists annual salaries of $52,218.78 each for McGlothin, Wesley and Weinstein, and $52,263.71 for Pugh.[4]

The appointments were approved through the board's consented agenda, resolving the outcome left open in our earlier report on the staffing request.[1][2][3]
