Two airport contract changes, one $9,000 cut

Aldermen approved $185,000 less in excavation work for Cook & Son and $176,000 more in site work for Pace Excavating.

One airport contract shrinks while another grows. Starkville aldermen approved a $185,000 excavation reduction for Cook & Son, LLC, and a separate $176,000 site-work increase for Pace Excavating, LLC, on Oct. 20—a combined $9,000 reduction across the two contracts at George M. Bryan Field in Starkville, Mississippi.[1][2][3][4]

Both changes were on the consent list covered by the board’s opening vote to approve the official agenda, including consented items. They concern the same 2026 Federal Aviation Administration project, but different contractors.[1][2][3][4][5]

Cook & Son’s excavation reduction lowers its listed contract price from $3,748,762.22 to $3,563,762.22.[1]

Pace’s increase includes $110,000 for work in the Phase 2 area, including processing and compacting on-site material and handling topsoil, plus $66,000 to bring in and place 3,000 cubic yards of selected fill. Its listed contract price rises from $2,438,821.98 to $2,614,821.98.[1]

The airport department lists funding shares of 95% FAA, 2.5% Mississippi Department of Transportation and 2.5% local matching funds. The $9,000 difference is a combined contract-price reduction—not a calculation of city-only savings.[1]
