Four acting fire sergeants sought to cover three vacancies and a medical leave

Starkville staff say the appointments are needed to maintain enough certified officers to meet the fire department’s minimum staffing requirement.

Three vacant sergeant posts and a fourth sergeant’s medical leave prompted a request for four acting appointments in the Starkville, Mississippi, Fire Department. The city’s Human Resources Department submitted the request for the board’s Oct. 20 agenda.[1]

The request says the appointments are necessary to maintain enough certified officers to operate and consistently meet the department’s minimum staffing requirement. It identifies vacancies for Ladder One, Engine One and Ladder Two, plus the sergeant on medical leave.[1]

Christopher McGlothin, Gage Wesley, Yaakov Weinstein and Caleb Pugh are the proposed acting sergeants. The listed annual salaries are $52,218.78 each for McGlothin, Wesley and Weinstein, and $52,263.71 for Pugh.[1]

The packet contains a request and a suggested approval motion—not a completed board action. Whether the board approved the appointments is not established by these materials.[1]
