St. Jude campus overhaul gets conditional planning backing

The city register records an Oct. 21 commission action, with council review listed for Nov. 17. Staff’s proposal keeps enrollment caps unchanged.

St. Jude’s proposed campus overhaul at 7171 Glenridge Drive has gained conditional Planning Commission backing, according to Sandy Springs’ land-use register. The register records the Oct. 21 action as “Approved with Conditions” and lists City Council review for Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.[1][2][3]

That is not final council approval. The register contains no council decision, and the exact terms of the commission’s action have not been verified for this report.[2]

The church-and-school plan we previously detailed seeks to amend conditional-use permit U02-0010 under case U-26-5. Its master plan calls for a new parish life center, church renovation, preschool relocation, a school gymnatorium and a middle-school wing.[1][3]

Staff’s proposed conditions would keep existing limits of 525 private-school students, 50 day-care children and 700 fixed seats in the church’s largest assembly area. They would also cap lot coverage at 49% across all master-plan phases, subject to verification of impervious-surface calculations and stormwater compliance during permitting.[3]

For neighbors, staff also proposed screening the southern parking edge to shield headlights before Phase 1 completion or occupancy, and keeping playground equipment 100 feet from protected-neighborhood property lines. These are staff recommendations—not verified conditions of the commission’s action.[2][3]
