Local brief
Shul at Chastain variance now listed for Dec. 2—not Nov. 4
The city’s register lists a later hearing date for the setback request at 4930 Long Island Terrace. The proposal would reuse an existing building.
Sandy Springs’ case register now lists Dec. 2, 2026, at 6 p.m. for the Board of Appeals hearing on the setback variance for The Shul at Chastain’s proposed move to 4930 Long Island Terrace. The earlier register listed Nov. 4—the date in our earlier report on the relocation.[1][2]
Applicant Kesher Torah of Sandy Springs, Inc., doing business as The Shul at Chastain, proposes relocating the Orthodox congregation from 5075 Roswell Road. Its application calls for reusing the existing building with minor interior modifications, not expanding its footprint.[2]
Case V-26-53 seeks relief from Section 7.4.1 to allow the worship building within 100 feet, and parking within 50 feet, of a Protected Neighborhood District. The register still labels the request “Staff Review.”[1]
The city’s Oct. 7 Board of Appeals meeting listing marked the request “Administrative Hold.” The reviewed records do not explain why the listed hearing date changed or document a formal postponement. The Nov. 4 meeting-files page currently says “No published Meeting Files,” so it does not resolve how the case will be handled that night.[1][3][4]
