Committee votes 5–0 against Austin Road’s 24-townhome plan
The Oct. 26 recommendation adds to opposition from planners, NPU P and the zoning board. It is not a final City Council decision.
Atlanta’s Zoning Committee voted 5–0 on Oct. 26 to recommend against replacing an approved nine-house layout with 24 townhomes at 1956 Austin Road SW in Kings Forest.[1][2]
The meeting minutes, labeled draft, record Kelsea Bond abstaining and Mary Norwood absent. The vote is a committee recommendation against the site-plan amendment, not a final decision by the full City Council.[1]
We reported the Zoning Review Board’s Oct. 8 denial recommendation earlier this month. The committee has now joined the board, planning staff and Neighborhood Planning Unit P in opposing the proposal.[1][3]
Applicant Abdulrafiu Kokumo seeks to change the layout and housing type on the undeveloped 5.06-acre property while keeping its planned-development housing zoning.[1][2][3]
Planning staff found public services available and no need to change the city’s comprehensive-plan designation. Its objection was the four townhome buildings’ scale and form in a neighborhood of detached houses.[2]
Rejecting the amendment would not rule out housing on the site. Staff says a Feb. 4 site-plan amendment already allows nine detached homes.[2]
