Signs already standing are part of the $18,173 wayfinding fix

September and October records show state permitting work continuing after the August contract approval. The price excludes possible permit fees and traffic-control costs.

Finishing Chattahoochee Hills’ wayfinding network remained on the city’s October work list—even for signs that were already standing. The city’s September economic-development report says existing signs at Jones Ferry Road and Hutcheson Ferry Road were being incorporated into Georgia Department of Transportation permitting.[1][2]

That is part of the work behind an $18,172.87 contract the City Council unanimously authorized with Southern Sign Systems on August 4. Funded with hotel/motel taxes, the project is intended to finish directional signage to parks, public facilities and other destinations, including modifications required for signs in state road rights-of-way.[3][4]

The scope is more than installing signs left in storage. It includes modifying installed signs, repainting panels and posts, and adding GDOT-required breakaway bases and post sleeves. September’s report describes work on sign orientation, destination information and locations, with reviews along Campbellton Redwine Road/SR 70 and South Fulton Parkway addressing drainage, visibility, setbacks and available right-of-way.[1][4]

The contract amount is not necessarily the entire completion bill. Governmental permit fees would be passed through at actual cost if required; traffic control and lane or shoulder closures are also excluded. And the contractor’s roughly three-week estimate was tied to approval of final drawings, with GDOT approval, permitting and scheduling still conditions—not a three-week deadline starting with the August vote.[4]

This is separate from the $66,977 LED monument sign proposed for City Hall. Council rejected that purchase at the same August meeting while approving the wayfinding contract.[3][4]

The later records show why the wayfinding work remained unfinished business: the September report documents permitting revisions, and the October 6 draft minutes list resolving remaining GDOT locations among October priorities. They do not establish whether final approvals or installation have since been completed.[1][2]
