Beyond Khonso: Proposal would explicitly allow microbreweries across NC-9
Antonio Lewis's ordinance links the district-wide change to a proposed brewery and taproom at 638 Dill Avenue SW. The Zoning Committee is scheduled to consider it Oct. 26.
A proposal tied to Khonso Brewing's planned microbrewery and taproom at 638 Dill Avenue SW would reach beyond that address: It would expressly allow microbreweries as a principal use throughout Atlanta's NC-9 Neighborhood Commercial District.[1]
Councilmember Antonio Lewis's ordinance, 26-O-1593, describes a gap rather than an explicit ban. According to the measure, microbreweries are currently listed as neither a permitted principal use nor a prohibited use in NC-9. The amendment would place them expressly in the permitted category.[1]
The ordinance says the Capitol View Neighborhood Association reviewed the proposal by Fun Ventures, LLC, doing business as Khonso Brewing, and supported adding microbreweries as a permitted principal use without conditions. That support, as described in the legislation, is for the use category—not just the proposed Dill Avenue business.[1]
The measure remains a proposal. City Council referred it to the Zoning Committee without objection on Oct. 19; that was a referral, not adoption. Its effective-date provision calls for council adoption and mayoral approval, or effectiveness as otherwise provided by law.[1]
The next scheduled stop is the Zoning Committee at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue.[1]
