A $6 million proposal to replace failing wastewater-treatment equipment is scheduled for second reading before Atlanta’s City Utilities Committee on Oct. 13. The ordinance says worn-out clarifier components have caused repeated failures and limited operating capacity at the R.M. Clayton, South River and Utoy Creek water reclamation centers.[1][2]
Ordinance 26-O-1554 would move the money from reserves in the city’s FY 2027 water and wastewater commercial-paper fund to the Westech Clarifiers Replacement Project. The funds would cover mechanical components for up to three clarifiers through an existing parts-and-services contract.[1][2]
The distinction matters: the ordinance identifies equipment problems across three treatment centers, but does not assign one replacement to each. It also does not quantify the capacity loss or give a replacement timetable.[2]
City Council unanimously referred the measure to committee Oct. 5. That was a referral, not approval of the funding transfer; the packet lists the Oct. 13 committee step as pending. The second-reading listing does not guarantee a final vote.[1][2]
The committee meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Larry M. Dingle Committee Room at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue.[1]
