Local brief
Adamsville Village’s mixed-use pitch comes with a seven-part no-go list
Boone and Martin propose residential-commercial zoning for selected properties, while barring uses including vape shops, data centers and car sales.
More room for housing and businesses—but not every kind of business. An Atlanta rezoning proposal for selected Adamsville Village properties would pair mixed residential-commercial zoning with seven categories of prohibited uses.[1]
The no-go list covers automobile service stations; new and used vehicle sales, including mopeds and motorcycles; repair garages and paint and body shops; mixed-use storage facilities; small discount variety stores; data centers; and vape shops. The proposed conditions would prohibit them as both primary and accessory uses on properties covered by the rezoning.[1]
Councilmembers Andrea L. Boone and Wayne Martin’s ordinance, 26-O-1605, would change those properties from C-1 community-business zoning to conditional MRC-1 and MRC-2 mixed residential-commercial districts. It seeks to implement the NPU H master plan’s recommendations for Adamsville Village.[1]
The ordinance describes a broader goal than simply adding housing: reuse existing buildings, retain existing businesses, attract new ones and create infill mixed-use and multifamily buildings. Those are stated planning goals, not a commitment that particular buildings will be constructed.[1]
The proposal is not an approved rezoning. The City Council referred it to the Zoning Committee without objection on October 19. It is scheduled for the committee’s October 26 meeting at 11 a.m. in the Marvin S. Arrington, Sr. Council Chamber at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue.[1]
One important limit: this is a proposal for selected properties, not an automatic change across Adamsville Village. The ordinance points to attachments A and B to define its coverage; this account does not establish which individual parcels are included.[1]
