PATH400 Segment 2’s $479,047 testing contract wins approval

The work will check foundations, retaining walls and other construction. Staff projects a November start and a three-year build for the trail segment.

Sandy Springs, Georgia, has approved a $479,047.31 contract award to check the construction of PATH400’s Segment 2. Mayor and City Council’s signed Oct. 20 resolution awards the materials-testing work to United Consulting Group.[1]

The checks go beyond the finished trail’s surface. Staff says geotechnical and materials testing is needed for earthwork, foundations, retaining walls, reinforcing steel, masonry and concrete—to verify that those elements meet the project’s plans and specifications.[2]

The city’s project map shows Segment 2 following Ga. 400 north from Windsor Parkway toward Ridgeview Park, between Segments 1 and 3. Staff’s council report schedules construction to begin in November 2026 and last three years. That is a projected schedule, not confirmation that construction has begun.[2]

Federal funds routed through the Georgia Department of Transportation would cover 80% of the testing cost, or $383,237.85. The city’s share is $95,809.46. Staff says that money is already budgeted and allocated.[2]

Our earlier PATH400 preview described this testing award as a proposal. The signed resolution now establishes approval and authorizes the city manager to execute the contract, subject to approval by the city attorney and chief finance officer. It does not establish that the contract has been executed.[1][2]
