Local brief

McEachern’s SAT average rises to 1003, but trails Cobb by 113 points

The 13-point gain came as 26 more students took the exam. Council Member Patricia Wisdom highlighted the improvement after earlier questioning the school’s low scores.

McEachern High School’s Class of 2026 posted an average SAT score of 1003, up 13 points from 990 in 2025, according to the school’s Oct. 7 announcement.[1]

Participation rose, too: 26 more students took the exam than the previous year. McEachern was among 10 Cobb high schools that maintained or improved their averages.[1]

The gain still leaves McEachern below the district average. Cobb County School District reported a Class of 2026 average of 1116 out of a possible 1600—113 points above McEachern’s result.[1][2]

Powder Springs Council Member Patricia Wisdom highlighted the improvement at the Oct. 19 council meeting. That followed her earlier request for an explanation of low SAT scores at McEachern, documented in an amended report in the city’s Aug. 17 minutes.[3][4]

The year-to-year figures establish a higher school average and more test-takers. They do not, by themselves, establish what caused the increase or how much any individual student improved.[1]
