A 2009 fire truck is Fulton’s proposed $300,000 step toward airport fire service

Commissioners consider the purchase Nov. 4. Staff say it would help meet certification standards, but more specialized equipment would still be needed.

Fulton County, Georgia, wants to spend up to $300,000 on a 2009 Seagrave Marauder II custom pumper for its Executive Airport Fire Department. The Board of Commissioners is scheduled to consider the purchase Nov. 4.[1][2]

The reason goes beyond buying a truck. Emergency Management staff say the purchase would help the county fire department meet state certification standards and move it closer to providing fire protection for airport visitors, businesses and employees. This is a purchase proposal—not an announcement that certification is complete or airport fire service has begun.[1][3]

Nor would this truck complete the equipment list. The same staff request says the department will need specialized aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles, turnout gear, extinguishing agents, communications systems and medical equipment. It also calls for long-term maintenance planning.[3]

The proposed sales agreement with Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus sets the price at $300,000. Included work would cover a full chassis service, a pump service test, replacement steering tires and LED scene-light upgrades. The work list also flags malfunctioning lights, a warped front bumper box and a cracked compartment lip.[2]

The warranty would last one year from pickup, but it is limited: it covers catastrophic failures of specified components when an individual repair exceeds $3,000, with total seller payments capped at $12,000. Operator error, misuse and substandard maintenance are excluded, and failure to follow the manufacturer’s maintenance standards would void coverage.[2]

There is also a timing mismatch in the paperwork. The attached sales agreement is valid for execution by Oct. 31—four days before commissioners are scheduled to consider the purchase. The agenda requests authority for the county attorney to make necessary contract changes before the chairman signs, but the attached agreement does not show an extended deadline.[1][2]
