Fort Mill is remaking its Community Center—not replacing it

A September progress update highlights classrooms, a new activity room area and a walk-up lobby window, with a public unveiling anticipated later in 2026.

A new activity room area, large classrooms and a walk-up lobby window are taking shape at Fort Mill’s Community Center at 1011 Talbot Drive. In its Sept. 24 progress update, the town said the building was expected to be unveiled to the public later in 2026.[1]

The project is a renovation, not a replacement. In its April 15 announcement, the town said it chose to preserve the building rather than start from scratch, with plans for recreation and sports facilities, community education rooms and spaces for residents of all ages.[2]

The center already has a recreation role: the town’s facility listing describes a full basketball court with seating for 500. The September update adds details of the makeover, including newly painted walls and trusses alongside the activity area, classrooms and lobby window.[1][3]

The September announcement gave no firm unveiling date and did not announce that the renovated spaces were open for public use.[1]
