Chattahoochee Hills to explore preservation designation tied to grant access

Chattahoochee Hills’ Historic Commission will work with Community Development staff to explore Certified Local Government designation and identify preservation grant opportunities, according to draft minutes of its August 26 joint meeting with City Council.

Staff told officials that designation would require updating the city’s preservation ordinance to contemplate authority to designate private property as historic sites or districts. Background materials explain that the commission’s deliberately limited designation powers keep Chattahoochee Hills from qualifying for CLG status, which they identify as a requirement for state and federal preservation grants.

The work program also calls for budget priorities, a historic-property priority list for Public Works, and identifying connections between historic properties and city parks.
