Long Island Drive sidewalk plan would use federal grant funds
The Sept. 1 council agenda packet said the project's consultant had determined that an environmental review was required.
The city said the mayor's signature on the review would allow the project to advance to land-rights acquisition and sidewalk construction.
What changes
Sandy Springs developed the sidewalk improvement plans using funds available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant program. The project was incorporated into the city's grant-program strategic plan.
The details
The city contracted with Kimley-Horn and Associates in July 2024 to design the project. The consultant's contract also covered environmental studies and coordination required by the grant program.
The city held a public information open house at City Hall on March 20, 2025, providing concept plans, a project fact sheet and comment cards. According to the city, one card was returned with favorable comments.
