Two proposed appointments to Atlanta’s Tree Conservation Commission are back on the Community Development/Human Services Committee’s agenda Tuesday, Oct. 13, after being held to give the candidates an opportunity to appear.[1]

Mayor Andre Dickens proposed two-year terms for Peyton Peterson and Nick Johnson in June 29 letters that specify City Council confirmation is required. Their appointment forms identify different categories: registered landscape architect for Peterson, and urban or environmental planner or ecologist for Johnson.[1]

The qualifications submitted with the appointments describe experience on both the design and conservation sides of land development. Peterson’s attached résumé describes landscape-design work at TSW and handling tree-replacement and recompense permitting. Johnson’s attached biography describes him as Georgia Conservancy’s programs director, with earlier work on land-use policy and three years as a planner at TSW. Those attachments are not independently verified statements of their current affiliations.[1]

Both communications were held July 14 to allow an opportunity to appear before the committee. Their histories record another committee hold Sept. 29 and a council return as held Oct. 5. Tuesday’s listing does not establish that either candidate will attend, that a confirmation vote will occur or that either has begun serving under these appointments.[1]

The committee meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Larry M. Dingle Committee Room at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue.[1]
