Three nominees associated with Piedmont Park festivals are back on an Atlanta committee agenda Tuesday for proposed seats on a group charged with examining how special events affect parks and surrounding neighborhoods.[1]

The appointments would put festival-production experience into the city’s review of event permitting, public safety and park operations. The Special Event Technical Advisory Group, known as SETAG, has 19 members and provides recommendations to the mayor and City Council, according to the supporting resolutions.[1]

Tim Sweetwood is proposed for the seat representing large, gated and ticketed festivals. His resolution identifies him as representing C3 Presents, which produces Shaky Knees. Kevin James, representing the Atlanta Ice Cream Festival, is proposed for the Class B or C event seat. Bob Johnson, representing the Juneteenth Atlanta Parade and Music Festival, is proposed for the Class D or E seat.[1]

Those categories divide representation by anticipated attendance across an entire festival: at least 50,000 for Class A, 10,000–49,999 across Classes B and C, and 250–9,999 across Classes D and E. They are classification thresholds, not verified crowd counts for the nominees’ festivals.[1]

Councilmember Alex Wan nominated all three. Each proposed resolution says its candidate was the only nominee submitted for that particular seat.[1]

The committee held each appointment Sept. 15 to give the nominee an opportunity to appear. The legislative histories separately record all three as returned by City Council as held on Oct. 5, with Oct. 13 listed next. The packet does not establish completed confirmations, and Tuesday’s listing does not guarantee an appearance or an appointment vote.[1]

The Community Development/Human Services Committee meeting is scheduled for Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the Larry M. Dingle Committee Room at City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue.[1]
