An Atlanta ordinance proposes setting aside up to $1 million in water and wastewater funds if the Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy receives a $3 million Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program grant. According to the ordinance, the conservancy needs $1 million in committed funds to qualify. Council referred the measure to the City Utilities Committee on Sept. 21; referral did not authorize the funding.

The proposed first phase would address about 3,000 linear feet of Peachtree Creek on the east side of Atlanta Memorial Park, beginning at the Dellwood PATH bridge and including the stretch in front of the new Atlanta Opera. The grant application deadline is Oct. 16. The ordinance says city funds would not need to be accessed before April 2027 and then only if the full state grant is awarded.
