Atlanta’s held youth-violence funding proposal would authorize the chief financial officer to identify and transfer money for efforts targeting young people. Ordinance 26-O-1264 remained held in the Public Safety and Legal Administration Committee’s Sept. 28 minutes; that status does not authorize a transfer.

The supporting text calls for Atlanta Police, Parks and Recreation, the City Solicitor and other city offices to develop and fund the effort. It describes a prevention approach addressing root causes of crime through education, workforce programs, housing, rehabilitation and other interventions. These are the proposal’s stated aims, not evidence that new programs have begun.

Section 1 leaves the transfer amount as whatever is “necessary,” rather than specifying a dollar total. The minutes list Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. as the next checkpoint, not a spending or implementation date.
