From planning to implementation: Council approves $55,000 workforce grant
The Nov. 2 vote authorizes accepting National League of Cities funding to strengthen connections between local businesses and workers.
Atlanta City Council voted 10–0 on Nov. 2 to authorize accepting up to $55,000 for an economic-inclusion effort moving from planning into implementation, according to the Council’s draft action minutes.[1][2]
The National League of Cities award would support Atlanta’s Department of Labor and Employment Services through the Southern Cities Economic Inclusion Initiative. The ordinance says the goal is to better understand economic barriers and strengthen relationships and opportunities between local businesses and a skilled workforce. It also authorizes adding the grant to the fiscal 2027 budget.[2]
The grant proposal we previewed in October follows a $15,000 planning award whose acceptance was authorized in March 2025. The ordinance says Atlanta was among 15 municipalities selected for implementation funding.[2]
Council approval is not confirmation that the city has received or spent the money. The ordinance requires legal approval, execution, clerk attestation and delivery of grant documents before they bind the city. The records reviewed establish the Council vote, but not completed grant paperwork or hiring results.[1][2]
