City Planning seeks $676,000 extension for inspectors’ parking

The proposal would waive procurement source-selection rules to keep the fleet at lots where the city has installed a security gate, cameras and lighting.

Atlanta’s Department of City Planning wants to add up to $675,895.80 to its inspectors’ fleet-parking contract with Park Place Operations, extending an arrangement described in the ordinance as covering 80 parking spaces at lots on Forsyth and Broad streets.[1]

The proposed amendment would waive specified city procurement source-selection rules and draw the money from the General Fund. It would extend the parking arrangement for five years, from March 15, 2027, through March 14, 2032, and add two one-year renewal options.[1]

The department’s case for staying put centers on security and equipment already installed. The ordinance says inspectors’ fleet vehicles require secured, 24-hour parking, and that City Planning has installed an electronic security gate, security cameras and lighting at the location.[1]

The extension is not an approved deal. Ordinance 26-O-1626 is on the Community Development/Human Services Committee’s October 27 agenda, with consideration scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The packet lists both committee and later City Council consideration as pending.[1][2]

Even authorization would not itself bind the city to the amendment: the proposed ordinance requires City Attorney approval, execution by the mayor, attestation by the Municipal Clerk and delivery to Park Place Operations.[1]
