Cherry Street would cover Northside Pumping Station’s $103,000 solar hookup

A proposed Georgia Power agreement would connect solar to serve the station. Atlanta’s utilities committee is scheduled to consider it Oct. 27.

Connecting solar at Atlanta’s Northside Pumping Station to Georgia Power’s electrical system would require an estimated $102,997.98 in work—and Cherry Street, not the city, would cover the interconnection bill under a proposed resolution.[1]

The station on Moore’s Mill Road was included in an earlier amendment to the city’s solar procurement agreement, according to Resolution 26-R-4332. The proposed connection would allow the solar installation to supply electricity used at the station.[1]

Georgia Power has determined that additional interconnection facilities are needed, the resolution says. It places the full connection cost on Cherry Street under the existing solar agreement, which makes the contractor responsible for the equipment, facilities and resources needed to perform its services.[1]

The measure would authorize the mayor or a designee to sign the agreement with Georgia Power. The packet lists City Utilities Committee consideration for Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. and City Council consideration for Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.; both steps are marked pending, not approved.[1]

Even if adopted, the authorization would not itself make the agreement binding: it would still require legal approval, execution, attestation and delivery to Georgia Power. The resolution does not specify when solar power would begin serving the station.[1]
