An Atlanta proposal would reappropriate $433,713 in federal Securing the Cities carryover funds in the city’s fiscal 2027 budget. The Finance/Executive Committee unanimously accepted ordinance 26-O-1555 at first reading Sept. 30; that action does not establish final budget authorization.

The measure concerns continuation funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Securing the Cities program. It would ratify the city’s previously submitted application and waive the normal requirement for legislative authorization before applying. The supporting ordinance says the program requires no matching funds.

Acceptance of the carryover and the budget change would be subject to the mayor’s execution of the required documents. Those documents would not bind the city until executed and delivered to Homeland Security. The committee minutes list Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. as the next checkpoint.
