A $20,000 sidewalk claim tops three settlement approvals
Council voted 15–0 on each resolution Oct. 19. The $30,300 total also covers sewer damage and dormitory flooding; payment remains unverified.
Atlanta City Council approved $30,300 in settlement payments Oct. 19 for three claims involving a sidewalk injury, sewer damage and dormitory flooding. Draft action minutes record 15–0 consent votes on each resolution.[1]
The votes advance the three proposed settlements we reported before committee consideration. Each resolution authorizes full and final settlement of past, present and future claims arising from its specified incident.[1][2]
The largest payment authorization is $20,000 to Leah Caldwell for bodily injury allegedly sustained in a Dec. 18, 2025, sidewalk incident at 57 25th Street NW. That claim accounts for roughly two-thirds of the total.[1][2]
Alec Horn’s settlement authorizes $7,800 for alleged property damage from a Feb. 18, 2026, sewer incident at 1923 Beecher Road SW. The third authorizes $2,500 to Dnijah Coates and her attorneys for alleged property damage from Sept. 14, 2023, stormwater flooding at 22 Lawshe Street SW, Dorm B1.[1][2]
The records reviewed establish Council approval—not that the claimants have been paid. The settlement resolutions also do not establish what caused the incidents or whether any underlying sidewalk, sewer or drainage condition has been corrected.[1][2]
