Webb Bridge Park’s tunnel mural won a 7–0 council vote in September

Earlier plans outlined a roughly $30,000 walk-through nature lesson. Official minutes confirm council approval, but installation status remains unconfirmed.

Alpharetta City Council approved the public-art application for Webb Bridge Park’s tunnel mural on Sept. 14. The project passed as part of a unanimous, 7–0 consent-agenda vote, according to the official minutes.[1]

The concept presented earlier to the Cultural Arts Commission was a walk-through nature lesson. In the city’s unedited reference transcript, staff identified Sarah Emerson as the selected artist and described artwork highlighting native plants, animals and insects. The design featured deer, butterflies, cardinals and frogs alongside fire azaleas, dogwoods and sweet bay magnolias.[2]

That presentation estimated the project at about $30,000: $20,000 for the artist and $10,000 for tunnel preparation and protective layers. The work described included vegetation removal, pressure washing and priming before painting, followed by an anti-graffiti coating. Those figures were presentation estimates, not confirmed final spending.[2]

Staff also envisioned adding the mural to the city’s Public Art Walk, with one plaque identifying the artist and another explaining the nature elements. The proposal called for including the mural in the city’s ongoing public-art maintenance plan.[2]

Our earlier mural report left final council authorization unresolved. The September minutes settle that question—not whether the artwork is ready to visit. The mural’s current installation status and a public completion date remain unconfirmed in the records reviewed.[1]
