Alpharetta’s Rivers Alive cleanup set for Oct. 17, replacing earlier Oct. 10 date

A September city summary resolves the conflicting dates. Volunteers of all ages are asked to preregister for the 8:30 a.m.–noon event at Rock Mill Park.

Alpharetta’s Rivers Alive cleanup is scheduled for Oct. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at Rock Mill Park, 3100 Kimball Bridge Road. Volunteers of all ages are invited, and the state’s official cleanup directory asks them to preregister with Terry Porter at 678-297-6200 or tporter@alpharetta.ga.us.[1][2]

The conflicting dates in earlier schedules have an explanation: the Natural Resources Commission’s Sept. 15 work-session summary explicitly says the event’s date changed. An August summary had listed Oct. 10. The September document does not explain why it changed, and the city labels its action summaries as convenience documents rather than official records of proceedings. The state directory also lists Oct. 17.[1][2][3]

The city and its Natural Resources Commission are organizing the event as part of Georgia’s Rivers Alive program, which recruits volunteers to remove trash from waterways and protect watersheds. Rock Mill Park lies in the Upper Chattahoochee River watershed, according to the state’s site record.[2][4][5]

At the September session, Porter requested project leaders, and five commissioners signed up for the early shift. Commissioner Kate Tunison offered to lead a planting project. That was an offer, not a confirmed activity list; the summary does not establish the final work plan. Volunteers can ask about assignments and meeting-point details when preregistering.[1][2]
