Sandy Springs’ 2027 holiday calendar begins with New Year’s Day on Friday, Jan. 1, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 18. Two later observances fall on dates other than the holidays themselves: Independence Day on Monday, July 5, and Christmas on Friday, Dec. 24.[1]

Alongside the 10 dated holidays, the schedule gives each full-time employee one floating holiday in recognition of federal holidays not included in the calendar. That day must be used within 2027, before Dec. 31.[1][2]

The other scheduled dates are Feb. 15 for Presidents Day, May 31 for Memorial Day, Sept. 6 for Labor Day and Oct. 11 for Columbus Day. Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 25, followed by a holiday on Friday, Nov. 26.[1]

These are dates for an established holiday policy, rather than a newly expanded list: the accompanying human-resources memo says the city’s employee handbook already defines 10 holidays.[2]

The adopted calendar identifies holiday observances, but does not specify which city offices will close or which services will remain available. It should not be read as a service-by-service closure notice.[1]
