Federal grant gets the go-ahead: $500,669 for neighborhood work and loan payments

Staff plans to use the federal award for Long Island, Northwood and Hope Road improvements, plus infrastructure-loan payments. No local match is required.

Sandy Springs, Georgia, has accepted a $500,669 federal Community Development Block Grant, with the money intended to help finish neighborhood improvements and pay obligations from earlier infrastructure investments. The Mayor and City Council approved acceptance on Oct. 20.[1][2]

Staff says a significant portion will support eligible improvement expenses in the Long Island, Northwood and Hope Road areas, including completion and closeout work. Another portion is planned for payments on the city’s Section 108 loan. The staff memo does not specify how much will go to each area or to debt service.[2]

The award requires no local match. Spending must meet federal eligibility rules and the city’s approved community-development plans. The resolution authorizes the mayor to execute the grant agreement and related documents, subject to city-attorney review—not confirmation that those documents have been executed.[1][2]

As described in our earlier CDBG funding report, grant acceptance was proposed alongside a separate sidewalk-budget realignment. Acceptance of the federal award is now approved; this signed resolution does not establish the outcome of that separate realignment.[1][3]
