Council restores $179,636 for foam recycling—not a new grant

The project’s funding was left out of FY2027 because the work was expected to be nearly finished. Approval does not establish new drop-off options.

Sandy Springs, Georgia, has approved restoring a $179,636 budget for its foam-recycling project with Keep North Fulton Beautiful. City meeting minutes record a unanimous Oct. 20 vote to carry the funding into fiscal 2027—not award new money.[1][2]

The project had not been completed in fiscal 2026, Grant Administrator Dabney Brand told council, according to the minutes. The proposed ordinance explained why the money was missing from this year’s budget: the work had been expected to be nearly finished, so the project funds were not carried forward.[1][2]

Our earlier report on the proposed budget fix described a request awaiting council action. That carryover is now approved, but $179,636 is the project-budget amount—not an established balance of money still unspent. The supporting ordinance says the restoration is needed to spend remaining funds before the grant expires, without giving that deadline.[1][2]

The accompanying worksheet lists $178,461 in state grant revenue, a $1,175 contribution for Keep North Fulton Beautiful’s cash match, and $179,636 for machinery and equipment. Staff says the city initially sought $150,000, then revised the project budget upward as updated pricing and final vendor estimates came in.[2]

This is a budget approval, not an opening announcement. The minutes and supporting budget documents do not establish that the foam project is operating or announce new public drop-off options.[1][2]
