593 crashes in five years. Roswell Road’s fixes are still being studied.

The Hammond–Cliftwood corridor is in the study phase. An August plan lists $4 million for concepts and design only, with anticipated funding tied to November’s referendum.

The stretch of Roswell Road between Hammond Drive and Cliftwood Drive/Carpenter Drive recorded 593 crashes from 2020 through 2024. Sandy Springs, Georgia, is studying ways to make it safer for drivers and pedestrians—but the work remains in the study phase.[1][2]

The city’s Oct. 23 progress report says Mayor and City Council approved a consultant design-contract award July 21, followed by a kickoff meeting Sept. 15. It lists data collection as the next step. The assignment is to evaluate safety measures and produce a scoping concept plan, not to start construction.[2]

The city’s August 2026 Transportation Master Plan project sheet points toward improving intersection operations and managing roadway access points—where vehicles enter and leave—to reduce conflicts. The reviewed records do not establish a selected street layout, specific driveway changes or a construction start date.[1][2]

The safety concern extends beyond the crash tally. The adopted 2025 Safety Action Plan ranked the same segment second in the city’s High Injury Network by average annual crash cost, at $9.1 million. That analysis used 2018–22 data, a different period from the 593-crash count. Crash cost measures consequences such as medical bills, property damage and pain and suffering; it is not a city expenditure or a road-project budget.[1][3]

The project’s funding figure has an important limit: the August sheet lists a $4 million transportation sales-tax allocation for concepts and design only—not construction. It anticipates TSPLOST funding and warns that alternative sources may be needed depending on the November 2026 referendum’s outcome. The figure is a planning allocation, not confirmation that the corridor’s eventual fixes are funded for construction.[1][3]
