Bennett had been serving as interim police chief since the preceding fall, following Lane Cadwell’s retirement, according to the city’s action summary. The August appointment removed the interim designation from his police title, but retained it for his management assignment.

The appointments came during a transition at City Hall. Assistant City Manager Tammi Saddler Jones had been named interim city manager July 20; the city said she would serve until a permanent manager was selected. Retiring City Manager Pam Conner had been retained in July as a consultant to help with that transition.
