Fulton weighs $3 million to keep backup water crews on call
The proposed 2027 contracts cover North Fulton water-main and service-line work. Public Works says losing the backup would severely compromise emergency response.
Explore the source documentsFulton County’s Public Works Department says its ability to respond to emergencies would be “severely compromised” without renewing its standby water-construction contracts. Commissioners are scheduled to consider up to $3 million for that backup on Oct. 21.[1][2]
The contracts provide outside crews and equipment to supplement county staff as needed in the North Fulton water service area. Their work includes emergency repairs, water-main and service-line installation, and other water-system construction.[3]
The proposed renewal would run from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2027, with separate $1.5 million ceilings for Site Engineering and Wade Coots Company. It would use the first of two renewal options, leaving one.[2]
Asked about expenditures for the previous fiscal year, Public Works’ renewal evaluation reports “97% utilization of the previous contract authority.” The response gives neither a dollar amount nor a detailed calculation, and the percentage should not be treated as a tally of current-year spending.[1]
The $3 million request is a spending ceiling—not a reported expenditure or approval of a named water-main project. The pending action would keep standby construction capacity available for another year; the agenda does not establish approval.[2][3]
The Oct. 21 meeting begins at 10 a.m. in Assembly Hall at the Fulton County Government Center, 141 Pryor Street SW in Atlanta. The renewal is listed as item 26-0719.[2]
