No bids, another year: $1.4 million blight-cleanup extension heads to Council
The proposal is on the Oct. 19 consent agenda after clearing committee. It would be the third straight year of month-to-month extensions.
Atlanta’s bid request for cleaning and closing vacant, blighted or hazardous properties drew no vendor responses, according to a proposed ordinance. Now a $1.4 million extension with the existing contractor is headed to City Council’s Oct. 19 consent agenda.[1]
The proposal would make this the third consecutive year of month-to-month extensions. The legislation lists earlier extensions running from December 2024 to December 2025 and then through December 2026, each with the same $1.4 million ceiling.[1]
Ordinance 26-O-1488 would waive procurement source-selection rules and authorize another year with Asque’s Construction & Home Inspection, LLC, on behalf of Atlanta Police. The proposed term runs Dec. 16, 2026, through Dec. 15, 2027.[1][2]
The Public Safety and Legal Administration Committee recommended the measure 5–0 on Oct. 12, following a Sept. 28 hold. Full Council’s meeting is scheduled for Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.; the committee recommendation is not final approval.[1][2]
The ordinance says the replacement solicitation closed July 10 without responses and would be reissued. The police chief argues that an extension would prevent a service lapse while a new agreement is competitively procured, and says the contractor’s previous work was satisfactory. The records reviewed do not establish the current status of that replacement procurement.[1]
Consent items are scheduled for a single adoption motion unless removed for discussion. Even if Council approves this ordinance, its terms say the extension would not bind the city until the mayor or a designee executes the renewal notice and delivers it to the contractor.[1]
