Atlanta panel backs up to $5,000 for Sidney Marcus Park improvements

The amended proposal replaces a dollar-amount placeholder. The committee recommendation is not final authorization to make the donation.

A previously unpriced donation proposal for Sidney Marcus Park now has a ceiling: $5,000. Atlanta’s Finance/Executive Committee voted 5–0 on Oct. 14 to recommend the amended measure, according to draft minutes.[1][2]

Councilmember Alex Wan’s ordinance, 26-O-1537, would draw from the District 6 carry-forward account. The money would go to Morningside Community Foundation, specifically to support Friends of Sidney Marcus Park’s planned improvements—not directly to the park group.[2]

The earlier agenda carried a placeholder instead of a dollar figure and noted a Sept. 30 hold at the sponsor’s request. The amended minutes entry supplies the proposed amount, but neither entry specifies which park improvements the donation would fund.[1][2]

The minutes list Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. as the next checkpoint. The committee’s recommendation is not final authorization, and the records reviewed do not establish that the donation has been paid.[2]
