Third stopgap year: $1.4M blight-cleanup extension wins Council approval
A replacement bid request drew no responses. The 15–0 vote authorizes another year with Asque’s, but a signed, delivered renewal notice is still required.
Atlanta City Council voted 15–0 on Oct. 19 to authorize up to $1.4 million for another year of cleaning and closing vacant, blighted or hazardous properties. The vote advances the consent-agenda proposal we previously reported.[1][2][3]
Ordinance 26-O-1488 waives the city’s procurement source-selection rules to authorize a month-to-month extension with Asque’s Construction & Home Inspection, LLC, on behalf of Atlanta Police. The authorized term runs Dec. 16, 2026, through Dec. 15, 2027.[1][2]
It would be the third consecutive year of month-to-month extensions. The ordinance lists earlier extensions covering December 2024 to December 2025 and then through December 2026, each with the same $1.4 million ceiling.[2]
According to the ordinance, a replacement solicitation closed July 10 without any vendor responses. Procurement planned to cancel it and issue a new solicitation. The records reviewed do not establish the current status of that replacement effort.[2]
The police chief’s stated justification is continuity: a lapse would leave Atlanta without a means to clean and close those properties while a new agreement is competitively procured. The ordinance also says the contractor’s previous work was satisfactory.[2]
Council approval does not itself make the extension binding. The mayor or a designee must execute the renewal notice and deliver it to Asque’s before Atlanta incurs an obligation. The records reviewed do not establish that those steps are complete.[2]
