Local brief

Nearly 7 in 10 code inspections were in just five districts

APD reported a 21% rise in second-quarter 2026 inspections. Districts 12, 3 and 10 led the count—but inspection totals don't show how many violations were fixed.

Five Atlanta council districts accounted for 69% of the city's reported code-enforcement inspections in the second quarter of 2026, according to the Atlanta Police Department's August 24 report to the Public Safety & Legal Administration Committee.[1]

District 12 led with 982 inspections, followed by District 3 with 934 and District 10 with 872. Districts 11 and 9 recorded 651 and 641, respectively. Together, those five districts accounted for 4,080 of the reported 5,878 inspections.[1]

Citywide, inspections increased by 1,003—about 21%—from the 4,875 reported for the same quarter in 2025. APD listed junked vehicles, trash and debris, and overgrowth as common violations.[1]

Those figures describe where inspection work occurred. They do not, by themselves, measure the share of properties with violations or how quickly problems were fixed.[1]

The distinction matters for another number in the report: 3,280 labeled “resolved,” compared with 2,340 a year earlier. The chart does not explain what qualified as resolved. Dividing that figure by the inspection total would not establish a rate of violations corrected.[1]

The committee's information-request list records Councilmember Martin asking on August 24 for more detail about the 3,280 figure and how many District 3 inspections went to court. The request remained listed in an agenda draft dated October 22. That carried-forward entry records the question; it does not establish whether APD subsequently answered it.[2][3]
