Glen Iris second-story addition returns Nov. 12 with 2.2-foot side setback request
Atlanta’s zoning board set a return date after the applicant sought more time to work with the neighborhood. The setback exceptions remain unapproved.
Explore the source documentsA proposal to add a second story over the existing footprint of a home at 586 Glen Iris Drive NE is scheduled to return to Atlanta’s Board of Zoning Adjustment Nov. 12. Building upward still requires permission to depart from the city’s side-yard rules.[1][2]
As described in an Oct. 8 planning memorandum, the application seeks a five-foot setback from the north side property line instead of seven feet, and a 2.2-foot setback on the south side instead of seven feet. Those variances would allow the addition closer to both boundaries than the stated rules permit.[2]
The applicant requested more time to continue working with the neighborhood. Planning staff and Neighborhood Planning Unit M supported postponement, and the board deferred case V-26-131 to Nov. 12, according to its Oct. 8 summary. That decision set the return date; it did not grant the setback exceptions.[1][2]
The memorandum does not explain what issues the neighborhood discussions concern. Any later revisions to the proposal or resulting neighborhood agreement are not established in the records reviewed.[1][2]
The city lists BZA public hearings at noon in the second-floor Council Chambers at the City Hall Annex, 55 Trinity Avenue.[3]
