Council clears up to $10,000 for John Wolfinger statue and Sidney Marcus Park

Two District 6 donations are capped at $5,000 apiece, with separate organizations designated to receive the money.

Atlanta City Council approved two donations of up to $5,000 apiece Oct. 19—one for a statue honoring John Wolfinger in John Howell Park, the other for planned improvements to Sidney Marcus Park. Draft action minutes record 15–0 consent votes on both ordinances.[1]

Both measures were sponsored by Councilmember Alex Wan and authorize money from the District 6 carry-forward account. The designated recipients are different organizations—not the parks themselves.[1]

Ordinance 26-O-1538 directs the statue donation to Virginia-Highland Security Patrol, Inc., specifically to support erecting the Wolfinger statue in John Howell Park.[1]

Ordinance 26-O-1537 directs the other donation to Morningside Community Foundation to support Friends of Sidney Marcus Park’s planned improvements.[1]

Our earlier reports covered the $5,000 committee recommendation for Sidney Marcus Park and the then-unpriced statue proposal. Council has now adopted both ordinances as amended.[1][2][3]

The records reviewed establish Council authorization—not that either donation has been paid or work has begun. The minutes do not detail the Sidney Marcus Park improvements or set a date for installing the statue.[1]
