Council approves $515,000 for six lawsuit settlements

A $350,000 authorization in Eugene Hudson’s case accounts for more than two-thirds of the total. Payment and case dismissals remain unverified.

Atlanta City Council authorized $515,000 to settle claims against the city in six lawsuits Oct. 19. One case accounts for more than two-thirds of that amount: a $350,000 settlement authorization in Eugene Hudson v. City of Atlanta and Faro James.[1]

All six resolutions passed 15–0 by consent vote, according to the meeting minutes.[1]

The other five authorizations total $165,000: $65,000 in Juliet Johnson-Porter’s case; $40,000 in Lathan Wise’s; $30,000 in Raven Hardeman’s; $21,500 in Roy Garner’s; and $8,500 in Bettye Harris’s.[1]

The minutes identify the parties, courts and settlement amounts, but do not describe the underlying events or allegations. These votes authorize settlements of claims against Atlanta; they do not establish that payments have been made or the lawsuits dismissed.[1]
