Nia Brown and Alicia Smith won separate 15–0 confirmations for three-year terms. The Civil Service Board handles challenges to firings, demotions and unpaid suspensions.

Atlanta City Council voted 15–0 in separate roll calls Oct. 19 to confirm Mayor Andre Dickens’ appointees Nia Brown and Alicia Smith to three-year terms on the Civil Service Board.[1]

The board is the city’s designated protector of its civil service system. Its work includes employee appeals of dismissals, demotions and suspensions without pay. The city also lists unjust coercion or reprisal and failures to follow layoff or reduction-in-force procedures among the actions that can be appealed.[2]

Smith’s submitted résumé lists her as founder and CEO of Alicia Smith Coaching & Consulting since July 2024. It also lists a senior-director role at Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies from January 2018 through June 2024.[1]

In her submitted biography, Brown says she is committed to fairness, impartiality and accountability while serving city employees and residents on the board.[1]
