Atlanta's proposed Municipal Option Sales Tax alternative-uses task force would examine the water-system consequences of expanding how future tax proceeds may be spent. The supporting resolution says the fiscal 2027 budget anticipates approximately $220 million in annual MOST revenue.

The resolution describes current proceeds as restricted to water and sewer projects and costs, related general-obligation debt and associated loans. It says the current voter authorization may continue through Sept. 30, 2028, unless collections first reach its $1.1 billion ceiling.

The study would consider effects on water and sewer rates, debt, capital programs, regulatory compliance and maintenance. Its recommendations would not themselves authorize spending or change the law; any required later legislative, administrative, legal and voter approvals would still apply.

The Finance/Executive Committee kept resolution 26-R-3939 held Sept. 30. That action does not establish creation of the task force or redirect any tax proceeds.
