Atlanta’s City Utilities Committee gave first reading Sept. 15 to a proposal to move $2 million from water and wastewater reserves to a vehicle and heavy-equipment program. The ordinance was forwarded to the full Council for referral, not approved as a transfer.

The ordinance identifies sewer-cleaner trucks, pickup trucks, tandem dump trucks and a backhoe among equipment the program would acquire. It says the share of Department of Watershed Management vehicles operating beyond normal service life has fallen from 54% to 18% over the program’s 11 years. Those figures describe the program, not the number of vehicles this transfer would fund.
