Atlanta panel conditionally backs paying $63,764 in fire-safety bills

The four-vote recommendation concerns work already performed at Public Works facilities and on vehicles. The recorded condition is unexplained, and Council action remains pending.

Atlanta’s City Utilities Committee conditionally recommended Oct. 13 that the city pay up to $63,763.62 in outstanding fire-protection bills for Public Works facilities and vehicles. The proposal concerns work Pye-Barker Fire & Safety, LLC, performed from April 24 through July 29—not a new round of safety inspections.[1]

The committee’s draft minutes record the result as “favorable on condition,” but neither the vote entry nor the attached ordinance explains the condition. The packet lists full Council consideration as pending Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. The recommendation is not final authorization to pay, and the reviewed records do not establish that payment has been made.[1]

All four members voting supported the recommendation: Kelsea Bond, Liliana Bakhtiari, Alex Wan and Andrea L. Boone. Wan made the motion, and Bakhtiari seconded it.[1]

Ordinance 26-O-1552 would ratify the completed services and authorize the chief financial officer to pay invoices approved by the Public Works commissioner. The legislation says the work addressed immediate life-safety and regulatory requirements to protect employees, facilities and vehicles.[1]

The work included fire-alarm repairs and monitoring; sprinkler, hydrant, emergency-lighting and extinguisher inspections; and replacement of batteries, smoke detectors and other safety equipment. The invoices cover services at five facilities: 23 and 128 Claire Drive SE, 315 Chester Avenue SE, 1120 North Avenue NW and 1540 Northside Drive NW.[1]

The ordinance does not explain why the invoices remain outstanding or why after-the-fact ratification is needed. Those questions—and the committee’s unspecified condition—remain unresolved in the written record reviewed.[1]
